When I first began this painting, I painted in the eyes then becamse stuck, unsure of how to proceed. I left it for some weeks before coming back to it. How to say what I wanted to say - about the wild beauty of badger, their stealth and sturdiness, their  power and vulnerability. About how much I adore the rare glimpses I am have of them ambling along a country lane or path, and how it saddnes me to see so many knocked down by the roadside.

Then two nights before painting this, I dreamed about them, and on the day of painting this I found myself without electricity at home and no chance of getting any work done on the computer as I had planned. The paints came out! Before I knew it, these two lovely fellows arrivd on the page effortlessly. It seemed like they painted themselves, and this became one of my favourite paintings to date.

The more I paint, the more I see that every painting has its own time to appear, and its own journey to completion.
