We rarely see hares in the central Lake District, and when we do it seems to be nothing more than a fleeting glimpse as they appear then flit away.
This brown hare painting aims to capture their ethereal presence, and the sense that they have barely arrived before they have gone. Here, the hare emerges out of the landscape - a seamless part of the air and ground.
As with so many artists who love to paint hares, it is their enormous eyes and ears, and their finely sculptured heads that drew my focus in this painting.
