The beautiful kestrel, huddled on a post, feathers fluffed up.
When we first moved to Cumbria over 25 years ago, we would see kestrels everyday. Even when they were so common to us, the sight of them made me pause: there is something about their ability to tame the wind, resting on its contours, so poised and alert. And there is something about their rich colouring, their delicacy and their strength.
Now, seeing them so rarely, they are a sight I truly savour.
This atmospheric painting if full of subtle hues of blue, brown, gold and russet.
Watercolour infused with flower essences on Fabriano 300gsm paper.
