"Dreaming of Home"

The exquisite and mysterious Eurasian Lynx once inhabited the British Isles ... might it do so again in our times? Here, I imagine it 'at home' in its natural environment of vast sweeping forests. Do you see the trees reflected in its eyes?

A notoriously secretive animal, the Eurasian Lynx is the largest member of the lynx family, and the third largest apex predator in Europe after the bear and wolf. It is so stealthy, prefering to hunt at dusk and at night, that its presence can go unnoticed in an area for years.

This mysterious creature steals my heart and my imagination. The painting itself came slowly. I could work on it for a few minutes before I had to step away. I simply couldn't rush it. It slowly emerged over several days.

The photograph doesn't quite show the softness of this piece: it as if the Lynx emerges gently from the page, those bright golden eyes the focal point. This would make a beautiful centre piece above a fireplace or in a cosy part of the room.

Watercolour infused with flower essences, on Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper 300gsm.
